🇧🇪 Belgium: Evaluates participation in Junior Eurovision 2024

Flemish broadcaster VRT is judging the entries to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

Belgian broadcaster VRT has confirmed to Eurofestival that it is still considering the possibility of participating in the 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The country is reportedly reevaluating its stance on the competition.

Last year, VRT confirmed it was considering a return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2023. Belgium has not participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since 2012.

Junior Eurovision 2024

France’s Zoë Crojour won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Nice, France with 228 points. She topped both the jury vote and the online vote, giving France her third win and extending her streak to 2022. The country that will host the 2024 contest has not yet been announced.

It is expected that interested broadcasters will need to confirm their intention to participate in Junior Eurovision 2024 by late July.

Belgium participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest from 2003 to 2012. From 2005 onwards, the VRT was responsible for selecting entries, as Wallonia and her RTBF showed no interest. The country hosted a contest in the city of Hasselt in 2005, hosted by Maureen Ruiz and Marcel Vantilt at the Ethias Arena. The award for Best Picture went to Laura Omloop and her song “Zo verliefd (Yodelo)”, which finished in fourth place at the contest held in Kiev, Ukraine in 2009. However, VRT withdrew from the competition in 2013 to launch a new show for young performers in Belgium.
