Must read

The Italian Government occupies a special position in the Junior Professional Officer (JPO) induction program offered by the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC). How did this common journey begin? The Italian Government, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the UNSSC have been partners since 2003, and his first JPO at the UNSSC It began with the appointment of a group of young Italian professionals to an orientation program. Last year, 2023 marked a major milestone: the 20th anniversary of our partnership.

The UNSSC’s orientation program provides participants with a comprehensive system-wide perspective, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and competencies essential to the United Nations and, importantly, a strong network of colleagues and colleagues across the United Nations system. It allows you to embark on your JPO journey and create successful and lasting connections. Beyond the orientation program.

Although the program has just started in Italy, over time it has gradually opened its doors to newly recruited JPOs from other member states. Currently, 10 countries trust the Staff College team to prepare his JPOs for their journey into the United Nations system through orientation programs.

For more than 20 years, this initiative has developed into a force for change, equipping around 700 Italian-sponsored young professionals with the skills to actively contribute to UN missions while pursuing professional careers within the UN system. I learned it.

The spirit of partnership in this program has proven to help ensure the seamless integration of JPOs into their roles. The success stories of those who have benefited from this collaboration testify to the profound impact of this enduring relationship.

“It was a really great opportunity. Being on the ground allowed us to not only get to know each other, but also get to know the system in the right combination. It was a great balance between learning from the community and having the opportunity to network between JPOs and connect beyond the on-campus experience.”

Fabrizio Andreuzzi, UNDP Deputy Representative in Serbia, Italian Patent Office, 2004

“What I really liked about the JPO orientation program was that it gave me practical tools to work with and tips for navigating the United Nations system: interagency work, interagency dynamics; I was able to gain a very deep understanding of how you can contribute to the United Nations system and the SDGs, all of which make you an international servant within the organization.”

Alejandra Moncada, UNICEF Nigeria Planning Specialist, Italian Patent Office, 2018

May this cooperation continue to grow and usher in a new era of diplomatic excellence and global leadership!
