SINGAPORE: The Singapore Disabled Sports Council (SDSC) announced on Monday 5 February that the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships will be held in Singapore for the first time in Asia.

This championship is the highest ranking non-Paralympic swimming competition. It will be held from October 3 to October 9, 2025 at the OCBC Aquatic Center in Singapore Sports Hub.

World Para Swimming Director Craig Nicholson said: “This is a huge milestone for our sport and evidence of the growth of para swimming in this country and region.”

SDSC said para swimming is a “consistent stronghold” in Singapore, producing Paralympic medalists and world record holders such as Yip Ping Xiu and Teresa Goh.

“Additionally, Asian medalist Toh Wei Sun, Asian record holder Sophie Sun and numerous ASEAN Para Games medalists have contributed to the country’s rich para swimming heritage,” SDSC said. .

SDSC chairman Teo Ko Sok Mian added: “There are still many Singaporeans with disabilities who can find inspiration, success and fulfillment in para swimming and para sports.”

“We hope you will be inspired and confident by the outstanding Para swimmers you will see at this event.”

The 2025 competition will be the 12th competition.

Malaysia was scheduled to host the 2019 championships in Kuching, but was stripped of the rights after Israel refused to participate. This event was later held in England as well.
