SINGAPORE — A 65-year-old man was charged with the murder of a woman in Bukit Batok on Sunday, January 7. This follows the discovery of the body of his neighbor in his Bukit Batok apartment on Saturday.

Kwek Eng Hock is accused of killing a 43-year-old woman on Saturday. According to CNA, the victim’s name cannot be released due to a gag order.

The news agency reported that police received a request for assistance from the housing unit around 8:20 a.m.

When police arrived, they found a 43-year-old woman motionless inside the apartment. Paramedics later pronounced her dead. A 5-year-old boy, believed to be the child of the deceased woman, was taken to the hospital in a conscious state.

Arrested after authorities confiscated knife

The man was arrested at the scene, and authorities seized a knife believed to be involved in the incident. Police said an investigation is ongoing.

The Straits Times (ST) earlier reported that at least four police vehicles were parked at the foot of the block in the morning and a man wearing white hazmat gear was taken away by a police vehicle.

The Singapore Civil Defense Force said it received a request for assistance at around 8.25am. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was taken to National University Hospital.

ST said the area surrounding Block 460B Bukit Batok West Avenue 9 had been cordoned off by police, including the void deck as well as the public footpath.
