The latest data shows that hotel room prices in Spain have increased by 20% to an average of 110 euros per night.

Spain has fully recovered from the blow of the pandemic and has already surpassed France as the world’s leading tourist destination, according to data released this week by Caixabank Research. Data from Spain’s INE National Institute of Statistics also supports this. Spanish hotels recorded an average ADR (revenue per occupied room) of 108.90 euros in 2023, about 20% higher than the 89 euros in 2019, the country’s record year for tourism.

The annual number of overnight guests reached 347 million, an increase of 8.5% in 2022 and 1.2% in 2019. Domestic tourist overnight stays increased by 1.3%, and foreign tourist overnight stays increased by 12.6%.

Domestic demand is expected to increase by 0.3% in 2024, but most of that increase will come from overseas, with arrivals expected to increase by 3.8%, according to CaixaBank research. According to the study, tourism is expected to account for 12.7% of GDP (gross domestic product) in 2024, one-tenth more than in 2023 and three-tenths more than in 2019.

The CaixaBank report also reveals that Spanish tourists are returning to international travel at a slower rate than foreign tourists visiting Spain.
