The entire incident was recorded on the elevator’s surveillance camera.
After reaching level 17, Singaram asked the victim to follow him, but when she refused, he returned to the elevator and selected the seventh floor. He continued to sexually abuse the domestic worker during the elevator ride. Singaram was in the elevator with the victim for about 1 minute and 28 seconds. Singaram was arrested on September 28 and released on bail the next day.
On October 28, he had a confrontation with a bicycle shop owner over an issue with a personal mobility device he had purchased. An argument ensued, and Singaram struck Yeo Sukai three times with a metal chain wrapped around his fist.
The injuries suffered by Mr Yeo were serious and were particularly caused by the weapon used. Deputy public prosecutor Geordie Kaye had argued for a sentence of nine to 11 months for Singaram.
Mr Kay acknowledged that the level of sexual exploitation was low, but emphasized that he had attempted to touch the victim’s chest. It also highlighted the seriousness of the assault on Mr Yeo, given that a metal chain was used as a weapon. Mr. Singaram’s actions were condemned and the court sentenced him to prison as a result.
