Ukraine and Belgium signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at giving impetus to the development of bilateral relations, especially in the field of defense manufacturing.
This information was disclosed by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Lieutenant General Ivan Havrylyuk, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, said that the memorandum outlines the intention to implement joint projects aimed at expanding the potential and production of Ukraine’s defense industry. He emphasized the importance of this cooperation in the context of developing the domestic defense industry, establishing joint ventures with partners and localizing defense production in Ukraine, which is one of Ukraine’s priorities.
Havryliuk said the plan includes the joint production of certain types and categories of weapons, the organization of repairs, and the training of specialists and technicians.
In addition, the press release also mentions the implementation of other measures aimed at developing Ukraine’s modern defense industry.
“Ukraine is very interested in establishing joint ventures that will be operated in accordance with international standards. I am confident of further fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation between our two countries,” Havrylyuk said.
Last week, a Belgian-Ukrainian defense industry seminar was held. The event was organized by the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Ukraine.
The seminar was attended by 33 Ukrainian companies, 8 Belgian companies, representatives of the Belgian Security and Defense Industry Association (BSDI) and representatives of the defense and security sectors of the two governments. The seminar aimed to expand military-technical cooperation between Ukraine and Belgium and strengthen the partnership between Belgian and Ukrainian defense industries.
