Musical “Miss Saigon” returns to Singapore in August after 23 years

SINGAPORE – Miss Saigon will finally be revived in Singapore 23 years after it was last performed at Kallang Theater in 2001.

British theater producer Cameron Mackintosh’s award-winning long-running musical by French songwriter Alain Boublil and composer Claude-Michel Schoenberg will open at Marina Bay Sands’ Sands Theater from August 15th. It will be performed for a limited time only during the season.

Ticket pre-sale will begin on February 20th for those who register online at MissSaigon.sg by February 18th at 11:59pm. Maybank cardholders will also have pre-sale access starting February 20th, with general sales starting February 23rd.

All tickets are sold on the Marina Bay Sands website (marinabaysands.com) and Sistic (sistic.com.sg). Ticket prices will be announced later.

Set in the 1970s during the Vietnam War, the story revolves around Kim, a young Vietnamese woman orphaned by the war and forced to work in a bar run by a notorious figure known as The Engineer. She meets Chris, an American soldier, and falls in love with him, but the fall of Saigon tears them apart.

For three years, Kim embarks on an epic survival journey to get back to Chris, but Chris doesn’t know she has a son.

The latest installment of “Miss Saigon,” which opened in London in 2014 and toured on Broadway and in the United States, will be performed in Singapore following a sold-out season in Australia. It started in Sydney on 17 August 2023 and ended in Adelaide on 3 February 2023.

Hailed as one of the greatest musicals of all time, Miss Saigon has won 70 major theater awards, including two Olivier Awards, three Tony Awards, and four Drama Desk Awards.

Miss Saigon premiered in 1989 at the Theater Royal in the West End, starring Lea Salonga, a well-known Filipino singer and actress, as Kim.

This acclaimed musical has been performed in 350 cities and over 32 countries. The performance is performed in 15 languages ​​and features classic songs such as “The Heat Is On In Saigon,” “The Movie In My Mind,” “Last Night Of The World,” and “The American Dream.” I am.
