Belotti’s Italian dream and message to Roma after Fiorentina’s first goal

Must read

Andrea Belotti admits he dreams of being included in Italy’s Euro 2024 squad, insisting he needed to join a team where he could express himself.

Il Gallo started on Sunday against Frosinone at the Stadio Franchi and scored his first goal for Fiorentina in a 5-1 win.

The Italian striker joined Tuscany on loan from Roma in the January transfer window and made his debut for the Viola in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat against Lecce.

Former Torino captain Belotti started the 2023-24 season with Roma, scoring six goals in 22 appearances.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia after making a convincing home debut, Belotti admitted his desire to represent Italy at Euro 2024 during the summer.

“For sure, that’s one of my goals,” said the 30-year-old player, as quoted by Sports Media Set.

“Everything depends on what I do at Fiorentina. If I get a call, I’ll be happy. I hope Luciano Spalletti will come to Florence to watch me, but he’s not interested in football. I know he watches every game because he’s a master.”

Belotti was part of the Azzurri team that won Euro 2021, scoring 12 goals in 44 games for La Nazionale.

“I just arrived, but I knew I needed a team where I could express myself,” he continued.

“I decided to come here as soon as I had the opportunity. I spoke with Italiano and I have a chance to prove my worth here.

“All the players welcomed me well here,” Belotti added in an interview with DAZN.

“They’re all helping me settle in. I try to bring my experience to the team and I think I proved that today.”

Fiorentina will not have the option of making Belotti’s move from Roma permanent at the end of the season, with the striker’s contract at the Stadio Olimpico expiring in June 2025.
