It’s been a minute since 2016’s “Influencers, they’re just like us!” The moment I told the Observer that I too ate a hot dog on the street. It’s a groundbreaking admission, so to speak! All kidding aside, I’m going to give others a chance to share their memorable quotes. Specifically, we’re going to give you the chance to chat with arbiters of taste and style from the industry’s most exciting events.
And what better time than during New York Fashion Week to debut the first piece in this series? First up is Emira DeSpain. D’Spain is New York’s It Girl, especially when it comes to the beauty scene, and also happens to be her best friend. Over the past few years, the former Paper beauty director turned beauty influencer and model has amassed more than 1.5 million followers across social platforms, along with coveted partnerships with brands like Victoria’s Secret. (she was the first black transgender model to work for Victoria’s Secret), YouTube, Charlotte Tilbury, and Nars. She has her beauty, brains, style, and bold, unique, and truly one-of-a-kind personality that continues to draw her loyal followers to her iconic TikTok videos. .
So let’s take a look at her New York Fashion Week (end). D’Spain is particular about attending events that match her personal style and her values. Her usual front row spots include Christian She Siriano and The She Blonde, as well as Beauty She events with brands like Givenchy and Prada.
I first met Spain on Friday night at a Prada Beauty event, where I spoke to her about all her plans for NYFW and her review of the entire luxury event so far. The next day we met up again at Alice + Olivia and headed to Zero Bond to finish off her weekend before she headed to The Blonde. let’s start.

Observer: What was your beauty routine before NFYW?
Emira DeSpain: I started by getting microneedling a week ago to make sure my skin had a glow. I need to keep my skin well hydrated and I make sure to wash my face after a night out. It usually takes about 3 hours for my hair and makeup to set well and last through all my shows and events.
You’re known for your GRWM videos, but you spilled the tea on the fascinating process at NYFW.
the legendary donnie davie, Euphoria”‘s makeup artist totally nailed it with her glamorous makeup look.I showed her an inspirational photo From Nicky MakeupAnd we wanted to realize the same vision. She used her own brand, Half Her Magic Her Beauty, to perform an incredibly dramatic winged liner moment combined with anime her style lashes, then created my I placed her 150 crystals all over my face. It took about 3 hours in total, but placing the crystals only took about 20 minutes and was a complete mess.
How did New York Fashion Week start?
Last night I attended the Siriano show, the Givenchy Beauty event, and the Nylon Night afterparty. We had to cram a lot into one night, but we managed to do it. The first was Siriano’s show. It was so amazing and I was so happy to see the collection being held at the plaza. It was something very special. Givenchy Beauty is one of my favorites so I had to celebrate the launch of her new Irresistible Her fragrance. The entire space was decorated in the most gorgeous florals and pinks, which I love. I ended the night with Nylon Nights. It’s always fun to party with fashion friends.
Moving on — let’s talk tonight! What do you wear at Prada Beauty?
She is wearing a Shushu/Tong dress and Valentino shoes, paired with a Prada headband from Fashionphile and a Prada bag. I’m a big fashion fanatic. You’ll find all the most amazing pieces there, and the quality and authentication process is truly unparalleled. It always makes me feel like I’m having a luxurious shopping experience.
Which Prada Beauty products would you like to try?
I’m really looking forward to trying out the foundation. I love soft matte foundations, so I’m really interested in how they pair with other beauty products.
What has been your favorite event of NYFW this year so far?
Christian Siriano’s show. He always does a great job and brings the whole vision to life. The collection was incredible, the atmosphere was perfect, and the most epic way to start NYFW.
What are your top 3 favorite brand shows at NYFW?
Laquan Smith, The Blonde, Christian Siriano. They all always give their best and make the show so much fun.
What do you wear to an Alice + Olivia presentation?
She’s wearing a stunning vegan leather shirt dress that gives off a sexy trench coat vibe. She paired it with black and gold Rene Caovilla sandals. I have to change into The Blonds later tonight and I like to wear the same shoes to make it easier.
I love that everything about Alice + Olivia can be worn on a daily basis. It feels like there’s so much great stuff on the runways, but the truth is, most people have no reason to wear a gold micro miniskirt on a daily basis.
The final stop of the weekend is Blonde. Please tell me about its appearance.
This is my favorite style I’ve ever worn. I remember seeing this on the runway last season and thinking, “I absolutely need that dress.”Surprisingly, it’s something like [The Blonds co-founders] David and Philip Blond read my mind and chose this look for me to wear. A corseted gold minidress with dangling pieces giving it a fierce gladiator vibe. Very sexy and awesome, that’s my vibe.
If you could give one message to someone doing NYFW, what would it be?
Don’t forget to have fun! This is all supposed to be fun and it’s easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed, but at the end of the day, you should be so grateful that you get to experience all this creativity in one week.
