Storms forecast for western and southern Spain « Euro Weekly News

Must read

The DANA weather system will bring the brunt of the storm to western and southern Spain, the Spanish state meteorological agency (Aemet) said.

On Thursday, February 15th, western Galicia and the southwestern part of the peninsula will experience scattered storms.

In Spain, the slow-moving storm system is known as the Depression Islada en Niveles Altos or Dana. These are isolated depressions in highlands where rainfall is unpredictable and heavy.

Amemet spokesperson Cayetano Torres also noted that rain could fall across the central peninsula, albeit in a milder and more dispersed form. For some, this unpredictable phenomenon is a welcome addition to the unusually high temperatures that have been occurring recently.

DANA influence and movement

As DANA moves away on Friday, February 16, skies will gradually clear, transitioning from heavy cloud cover to brighter conditions from west to east.

The weather forecast predicts rain across the Pyrenees, along the Cantabrian coast and inland mountains. Despite this change, cloudy skies and light rain are expected to continue in the northern part of the peninsula and the Canary Islands, especially on the higher islands.

DANA’s departure not only heralds a change in weather patterns, but also a drop in the high temperatures that have been experienced across the region.

While DANA’s presence is characterized by short periods of unstable weather, DANA’s withdrawal paves the way for a more stable situation.
