Zagreb, February 15th (Hina) – The Basque company Baskonia Alaves Group, which owns 85% of the Croatian First Division football club Istria 1961, will promote Croatia’s Istrian peninsula during basketball and soccer matches in the Basque region of northern Spain.
“Istria has become the new official sponsor of Baskonia and Deportivo Alaves. This cooperation includes various services such as field lighting during Euroleague matches and the application of Istria stickers, as well as the provision of sports viewing It will help to strengthen Istria’s image among the European Union,” the Baskonia Arabes Group announced on Monday.
The Vitoria-Gasteiz-based company did not specify the financial terms of the sponsorship.
Baskonia, who play in the EuroLeague, are ranked ninth out of 18 clubs in the Spanish Basketball Championship.
Deportivo Alavés is currently in 12th place out of 20 teams in Spain’s La Liga.
The club’s most notable achievement came in 2001 during its first appearance in European competition. The team reached the 2001 UEFA Cup final, where they faced Liverpool, but lost 5-4 after scoring a golden goal.
Another key moment was in 2017, when the club reached the Copa del Rey final but lost 3-1 to Barcelona.
