Maker’s Mark launches new Wood Finish Singapore Edition Bourbon – Robb Report

Must read

Maker’s Mark may have discontinued its Wood Finish Series in the United States, but it appears this special stave-finished bourbon series lives on in the form of the City Series. The latest release is a new Global Travel Retail exclusive whiskey only available in Singapore.

Maker’s Mark, owned by parent company Beam Suntory, is known for its flagship lineup of wheat bourbons (which use wheat as a side grain instead of rye). Last summer, the distillery launched the stunning Cellar Aged, its oldest whiskey to date. And over the past few years, various releases of the Wood Finishing Series have been released, each finished with different oak staves that have been cooked to different levels to give the whiskey a unique flavor. I am. When I visited the distillery last summer, the team told me that the Wood Finishing Series had ended, at least in its current form, but that it might return in another form.

This new whiskey is the fourth in the Wood Finishing City series, following New York and Sydney in 2022 and Frankfurt in 2023. All whiskeys are available in limited quantities and exclusively at travel retailers worldwide. The Singapore version was created in collaboration with chef Willin Lowe and Jigger & Pony Bar director Aki Eguchi. They probably had some involvement in choosing the cane combination used to finish the whiskey and capture a little bit of Singaporeanness in the bottle. “Created with a blend of flavors reminiscent of a lush tropical paradise, fragrant notes of pineapple and mango create a delightful explosion of exotic fruitiness,” Eguchi said in a statement. “To add depth and complexity, we carefully balanced these tropical elements with subtle touches of warming spices, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon, creating a harmonious blend of flavors that celebrates the spirit of Singapore. We took a journey through fusion.” The whiskey was bottled at 54.9% ABV.

Maker’s Mark Wood Finishing City Series Singapore Edition is limited to just 720 bottles (RRP $95) and will be sold at Lotte Duty Free at Terminal 4 at Changi Airport, Singapore. The new whiskey activation runs until February 29 and includes a tasting bar and a free tote bag with every purchase. Maker’s Mark says another City series will be released later this year, but there are no details yet on which major cities it will focus on.
