Amada at Ocean Casino Resort brings a taste of Spain to Atlantic City.Laughter comes to the party pit at Tropicana

Must read

Atlantic City’s nine casinos have no shortage of top-notch restaurants, and some of the East Coast’s finest dining rooms are under the roof of local gaming halls. However, with some rare exceptions (including those focused on Asia) Knob in Caesars Atlantic City and Black in Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City) They pretty much fit into one of two categories: steakhouse or Italian.

and, amada in Ocean Casino Resort.

The Philadelphia-based brand’s flagship brand is located adjacent to the casino floor at the boardwalk end of the expansive Pleasure Dome. iron chef champion/james beard Winner Jose Garces‘ Restaurant Empire stands out in the crowded AyCee eatery landscape for several reasons.

First of all, the menu is overwhelmingly focused on Spanish cuisine. tapas, or small plates, the traditional Spanish way of eating. And there’s also its status as the only luxury salon remaining since 2012, when the current Ocean debuted as the ill-fated Rebel. Second, this room has waiters with as much knowledge and passion for food as any staff I’ve encountered in Atlantic City or anywhere else. If this wasn’t enough, the views of the ocean, beach, and boardwalk are incredible.

It’s certainly no coincidence that Amada is the sole survivor of the two-year debacle at Rebel.

“It was definitely an easy decision to extend our contract and partnership with Chef Garces.” Becky Schultz, Vice President of Restaurant Operations at Oceans. “This is really a tribute to him and his approach to partnership.”

Schultz said one of the keys to Amada’s success is the amount of leeway it gives patrons. Instead of just being served what’s listed on the menu, guests have full input when ordering. “You can customize your selection in so many different ways,” she said, adding, “At Amada… there are so many great things to choose from and you can really understand what the restaurant is all about.”

Typically, upscale casino restaurants are first and foremost marketing tools to lure high-stakes gamblers back to the establishment. But Schultz pointed out that Amada goes beyond the industry standard blueprint for high-paying, repeat business.

“It’s a great ‘destination’ restaurant,” she says. “People come to Amada for Amada. It’s not just hotel guests who happen to be staying on-site who are looking for something to eat. A perfect example is [during a recent weekend] Even when there was no show, pre-show crowds gathered at Amada Bar for quite some time until the show resumed at the Hard Rock.

“It’s definitely a destination. It’s the only restaurant with a celebrity Iron Chef partner, Chef Garces. So there are a lot of great ways to approach marketing this restaurant, and in the Atlantic City market and in South Jersey, the brand… It is highly recognized as such.”

For a menu of rooms that boast sophisticated design and atmospheric lighting, please contact the General Manager. John Huff He explained that it did not originate from any particular region of Spain.

“What we have is Gamba Al Aljillo [shrimp]both are in the Galicia region, an area close to northwestern Spain, but ours is Patatas Bravas [a potato dish] It’s more like a Catalan style,” he said. “We also feature cuisine from the northeast of Spain, where Barcelona is located. Our wine list also reflects that, with a balanced mix of different regions of Spain.”

Interestingly, Huff notes that many of the dishes on Amada’s menu (meaning “beloved” or “beloved”) were not necessarily invented by Garces, but are based on recipes he got from his grandmother. He revealed.

Perhaps the best way to experience Amada is by La Mesa de Jose ($85 per person) Tasting menu with a variety of small plates prepared in the kitchen.Containing approximately 10 to 12 items (quantities vary depending on the size of the order), patrons can leave the ingredients entirely to the chef or customize them to their own tastes ( For example, on a recent visit, I claimed that the offerings included: Pulpo a la Gallega (sautéed octopus) and Cana de Cabra, Serve carefully selected cheeses with cherry and fig marmalade. Both are personal favorites).

No matter which Spanish dish you order, you’re sure to find something you’ve never experienced before. That’s what makes Amada a special restaurant. But if you don’t have the most adventurous or sophisticated tastes, don’t worry, Amada has you covered. The “From the Grill” portion of the menu includes traditional steakhouse dishes including scallops, chicken, and both porterhouse and (Wagyu) New York. strip steak.

And then there are the lamb chops. This is my favorite entree on the casino dining room menu. But there are plenty of steakhouses in town that cater to specific enthusiasts, including the casino’s own Ocean Steak. Amada is for those looking for something completely different.

Huff said: “We’re just trying to bring all the different pieces together to give Atlantic City guests a part of Spain they wouldn’t otherwise encounter.”
