Thai Prime Minister Sureta Thabisin has revealed that pop icon Taylor Swift’s long-awaited Elas Tour will be hosted exclusively by Singapore, rather than traveling through other countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. The reported agreement between the Singapore government and the pop star disappointed fans in Thailand and other ASEAN countries.
Known for her electrifying performances and heartfelt lyrics, Swift is one of the most influential artists of her generation. The announcement of her “Eras Tour” sparked a surge of anticipation among her global fan base, affectionately known as her Swifties. However, the revelation of her exclusive deal with Singapore dampened her excitement among swifties in the ASEAN region.
Thailand’s prime minister expressed his disappointment, acknowledging the American singer-songwriter’s immense popularity in Thailand and the broader ASEAN region. Discussing her global appeal, Tavisin emphasized that Thai Swift was looking forward to the opportunity to experience the magic of Swift’s music live.
Speaking at a business event in Bangkok, Thabisin said he had been informed of the deal by event promoter AEG. He added that the Singapore government is proposing financial measures ranging from $2 million to $3 million per performance, conditional on obtaining exclusive rights to the event.
The prime minister stressed that hosting the singer in Thailand is more cost-effective and can attract more sponsors and tourists to Thailand.
Recognizing the challenges associated with hosting such large-scale concerts, Thabisin revealed that the government is actively working to attract more “A-list” artists to Thailand by the end of the year. According to reports, Taylor Swift held a sold-out concert at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi province in 2014, but the event was suddenly canceled without any official explanation.
The Ellas Tour is Taylor Swift’s sixth concert tour, paying homage to all 10 of her albums to date. Known as her most extensive tour, it spans her 151 performances across five continents. In particular, Elas Her Tour is known as the highest grossing tour of all time, surpassing the remarkable milestone of $1 billion in revenue.
