Chinese foreign minister calls for negotiated peace in Ukraine

Must read

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated his call for a negotiated diplomatic end to the Ukraine war in a speech at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

Wang said China is working tirelessly to find a political solution to the crisis.

Wang again avoided condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Russia’s ally China has stubbornly avoided taking a direct public position on the war.

According to Wang, China’s diplomacy has one goal. The goal is to pave the way for peace negotiations, prevent a vicious cycle of violence, and stabilize the situation.

Wang said that the security interests of both Russia and Ukraine need to be recognized in resolving the conflict.

Russian officials were not invited to participate in the Munich Security Conference, a large annual gathering of world leaders and foreign policy experts.

Mr. Wang also called for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, saying fighting must stop and a humanitarian corridor is urgently needed.

The Chinese minister also said that the only way for Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace is through a two-state solution that recognizes an independent Palestinian state.

Mr. Wang presented his country as a mediator across a series of conflicts, describing China as a force for stability even in difficult issues.
