ANAHEIM, Calif. – UFC Spain is coming.

Last night at UFC 298 (Saturday, February 17, 2024), Ilya Topria defeated Alexander Volkanovski by knockout inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California to win the featherweight title and become the first Georgia-born champion. (See highlights!)

With the promotion having a new champion who lives in Spain, it makes sense in a global sense for them to go to Spain, as it’s a market they haven’t tapped into before…UFC CEO Dana White also said: I agree with this.

“I want to go to Spain. We’re going to Spain. If there’s an open venue, we’ll go there,” White told reporters at the UFC 298 post-fight press conference. We’re definitely going to Spain…and it’s going to be a pay-per-view. ”

After defending his title five times, former champion Volkanovski requested an immediate rematch and offered to fight alongside Topuria in Spain.

Volkanovski’s boss is not convinced about that idea at this point.

“We don’t know yet,” White said. “It just happened. I don’t even think about it now.”

The answer could be a cause for concern for Volkanovski. Especially since White typically rewards immediate rematches with long-reigning champions like Amanda Nunes and Israel Adesanya. But perhaps he will understand, since “The Great” is such a corporate man. .

Topuria is 7-0 (5 finishes) in the UFC, while Volkanovski is 1-3 in his last four fights.
