Alejandro Davidovic Fokina started his season with a comfortable United Cup win in Perth on Friday, dispatching Thiago Sabos Wild 6-4 6-0 and giving Spain 1-0 in Group A against Brazil. he led.

The Spaniard has now won his last 11 matches on hard courts against players outside the top 50 of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings. The world No. 26, who had the best year of his career in 2023 with a career-high 32 wins at the tour level, wasted little time in building to a 1-0 record in the 2024 season. The win improves his record to 1-1 in the Lexus ATP Head-to-Head series with Sabos Wilde, who upset Daniil Medvedev at Roland Garros in May.
Sara Sorribes Tormo will face Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia in the women’s singles match and will have the chance to give Spain a 2-0 lead. Each tie consists of her three rubbers: men’s singles, women’s singles, and mixed doubles. The mixed team event will feature 18 countries, divided into six groups of three teams each. Poland, led by Iga Swiatek, is also in Group A.
