Are you ready for an extra long weekend in 2024? Spain’s official work calendar for 2024 promises even longer holidays, bringing welcome relief to employees across the country.
In 2024, Spain will have 12 public holidays, 9 of which will be celebrated throughout the country. This reflects the previous year’s schedule, but with longer weekends for some holidays.

- Assumption of the Virgin Mary on August 15th
- October 12th is a public holiday in Spain.

- The Nativity of the Lord on December 25th.
Extended weekends and regional variations
This year there will be several public holidays on Monday or Friday, resulting in a longer weekend. Includes New Year’s Day (Monday), November 1st (Friday), and December 6th (Friday).
It will be a four-day holiday in the regions where Maundy Thursday (March 28) is celebrated, extending to five days in the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Navarra, the Basque Country and La Rioja, and will also be celebrated on Easter Monday (April 1). As a holiday.
In Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Castilla and León, Extremadura, Murcia and Melilla, December 9th (the Monday following the day of the Immaculate Conception) is a public holiday.

Special arrangements in selected autonomous communities
Each autonomous community in Spain also has the discretion to change some public holidays. This year, the communities of Catalonia and Valencia added recoverable paid leave. Workers can enjoy this additional time off, but must make up for lost work time.
Specifically, public holidays in Andalusia include Andalusia Day on February 28th, and Balearic Islands Day is celebrated on March 1st in the Balearic Islands. The Valencian community celebrates his Valencian Community Day on October 9th.
