Former Spain international Virginia Torrecilla has announced her retirement from soccer at the age of 29, ending her 14-year career.
In May 2020, while playing for Atlético Madrid, Torrecilla underwent surgery for a brain tumor. She beat cancer and returned to play after 683 days.

Torrecilla, who joined Villarreal on a free transfer this summer after leaving Atlético, posted a video on social media saying: “I say goodbye to professional football after 14 years… I want to stay connected to the sport that has given me so much. Continue,” he wrote. I am very. ”

Midfielder Torrecilla finished his club career at Villarreal after successful spells at Barcelona, Montpellier in France and Atlético.
She won three league titles and two Copa de la Reina trophies with Barça.
The Catalan club paid tribute to the player, writing: “Virginia, thank you for everything you have given to football. We will miss you very much.”
Torrecilla spent four seasons with Montpellier before returning to Spain in the summer of 2019 to sign with Atlético.
She made 68 appearances for the Spanish national team, appearing in two World Cups and two European Championships.
