F1: Red Bull engineer hints team to prepare for Singapore GP

Must read

Red Bull’s head of performance engineering, Ben Waterhouse, has indicated that after a difficult weekend last season, he is freshly prepared to take on the Singapore Grand Prix in 2024 with the aim of further improving his performance.

In 2023, Singapore was the only race won by a non-Red Bull driver as they struggled to optimize their RB19 cars against competitors such as Ferrari and Mercedes.

Now, Waterhouse has expressed confidence that the team has gleaned valuable insights over the last year and is poised for a successful comeback at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.

lessons learned

“I think we were suffering from instability, low-speed understeer and lack of traction,” he told Race Car Engineering Magazine. Gear shifts, collisions…all these problems complicate matters.

“And the fact that the car’s window isn’t where it’s supposed to be makes it even worse for them.”

“We didn’t do a good enough job in terms of being prepared and getting the car into the right window quickly. And I don’t think we reacted strongly enough at the time to understand the problem.

“There were various reasons why we didn’t do that, but that’s what we’ve been through and we’ve been briefed in detail since then. So now we pretty much understand what happened. I think I know what I would do differently.”
