SINGAPORE — NETS FlashPay cards and EZ-Link adult cards that have not yet been upgraded to SimplyGo EZ-Link will no longer be accepted as payment for public transport fares from June 1.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a media release on Tuesday, January 9, that these two traditional stored value cards can still be used for other motor vehicle-related payments such as electronic road pricing and parking fees.

LTA said the changes are part of its move to the SimplyGo system, first introduced in 2019, which allows users to remotely check their fare history, top up with their mobile phone and block lost cards. . The platform allows commuters to use contactless bank cards on public transport.

Approximately two out of three adult fare transactions on public transport are now done using SimplyGo EZ-Link or a bank card.

Most adult commuters are already using SimplyGo EZ-Link or contactless bank cards and will not be affected by this transition. Commuters using discount cards will not be affected.

How to prepare for migration to SimplyGo

Commuters with two traditional stored value cards should prepare for the transition as follows:

  • EZ-Link Adult Card: Upgrade your existing card to the SimplyGo system at a ticketing machine, SimplyGo ticket office or ticketing service center. Commuters can keep their current cards. Starting at the end of March, these cardholders will be prompted to upgrade when loading their cards at ticket machines.

  • NETS FlashPay Card: Exchange your NETS FlashPay card for a free NETS prepaid card at a SimplyGo ticket office or ticket service center.

Alternatively, adult commuters using these cards can choose other SimplyGo payment options, such as contactless bank cards. Traditional stored value cards can be used for non-transportation payments and can be refunded.

If you are an EZ-Link adult cardholder and wish to continue using your card for auto-related payments, please do not upgrade your card to the SimplyGo system. Meanwhile, NETS FlashPay cards will continue to be accepted for auto-related payments and retail purchases at NETS acceptance points.

Starting June 1, EZ-Link Adult and NETS FlashPay cardholders can continue to get refunds for their card balances at SimplyGo ticket offices or ticket service centers.

From January 19th to July 18th, NETS FlashPay cardholders can visit any of the 44 SimplyGo ticket offices to redeem their NETS prepaid card. Any remaining balance on your FlashPay card will be refunded.

Download the SimplyGo app and make the most of your offers

Commuters are encouraged to download the SimplyGo mobile app to take full advantage of the platform’s benefits, including the ability to view fare transactions and top up card balances remotely. If you don’t have the app, you can check your travel transactions and card balance at the ticket machine.

Service Ambassadors will be stationed at MRT and LRT stations and bus interchanges with ticketing machines to assist commuters with upgrading their cards and downloading and using the SimplyGo app.
