SINGAPORE — Roti prata chain Casuarina Curry has been suspended for two weeks by the Singapore Food Authority (SFA) after trespasses were found on its premises.
The affected store located at 138 Casuarina Road, Sembawang Hills Estate, will be closed from January 9 to 22.
The SFA posted a notice on its website on Tuesday, January 9, stating that the store’s license holder was charged with two violations: failing to prevent trespass within its licensed premises and selling unclean food. He also announced that he will be fined $800. He received six demerit points for each offense, which must be discovered and penalized within 12 months.
According to SFA regulations, licensees who accumulate 12 or more demerit points in a year can be suspended for up to four weeks and even have their license revoked.
Mandatory training and warnings issued after violations at restaurants
As part of the penalty, all food handlers at the outlet will be required to retake and pass the Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) Food Safety Course Level 1 before returning to work. Food hygiene personnel working in affected facilities will also need to retake and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 3.
The SFA also highlighted the seriousness of these crimes and called on food businesses to strictly adhere to good food and personal hygiene practices while employing only registered food handlers.
Additionally, the agency encouraged the public to avoid establishments with poor food safety practices and to report such concerns through SFA’s online feedback form or by contacting the Contact Center at 6805-2871.
In a recent Facebook post on Tuesday, Casuarina Curry announced it would be temporarily closed from January 9th to 22nd “for renovations.”
The post read, “Get ready for a refreshed atmosphere! Stay tuned for a big announcement.”
