Education Minister Chan Chun Sing said on Tuesday that the investigation by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) against Transport Minister S. Iswaran has been concluded.
In a written response to Progressive Singapore Party MP Hazel Pore, Mr Chan, on behalf of the Prime Minister, said the case was currently being considered by the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).
Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) Poa asked for an update on the CPIB’s Iswaran investigation.
“We understand that there is a lot of public interest in this issue,” Chan said.
“I want to assure you that this matter will go through due legal process.”

He said the CPIB had completed a “robust and thorough investigation” and the matter had now been submitted to the AGC.
“Therefore, it would not be appropriate to comment on this matter at this time,” he said.
On July 12 last year, the CPIB revealed for the first time that Iswaran was assisting anti-corruption authorities in investigating the case.
Two days later, the CPIB announced that the Minister of Transport was actually arrested on July 11 and later released on bail. Mr Ong Beng Seng, managing director of Hotel Properties Limited, was also arrested on the same day.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong then granted Mr Iswaran leave. Mr Lee also said in August that Mr Iswaran’s salary would be reduced to S$8,500 (US$6,390) per month until further notice. Mr Iswaran continues to withdraw his full annual parliamentary allowance of S$192,500.
In Prime Minister Iswaran’s absence, Senior Minister of State Chee Hong Tat took over as Acting Minister of Transport.
Few details have been released about the CPIB’s investigation into Iswaran. It is unclear what he is being investigated for or what his bail amount was.
When asked by CNA when the investigation was completed, CPIB reiterated Chan’s comments and said, “It is not appropriate to comment further on this matter at this time.”
