Singapore Airlines named 13th safest airline in the world

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has always been known as one of the best airlines in the world when it comes to maintaining standards.

However, there is certainly room for improvement, as recent rankings of various airlines show.

The ranking recognized SIA as the 13th safest in the world, with Air New Zealand topping the list.

Airlines ranked higher than SIA include Etihad Airways and Qantas.

Singapore Airlines ranks 13th safest on Top 25 list

Last Wednesday (January 3), AirlineRatings released its ranking of the world’s 25 safest airlines, selected from 385 companies.

SIA came 13th on the list, with Air New Zealand securing the top spot.

Qantas, Virgin Australia, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways each made up the rest of the top five airlines in the ranking.

Airline Ratings editor-in-chief Jeffrey Thomas hailed both companies as “outstanding” companies in the industry, adding that they are at the forefront of safety, innovation and new aircraft launches.

The battle for the top spot was a close one between Qantas and Air New Zealand, but due to aging aircraft, the latter won the race.

Thomas further explained that the editors analyzed five years of crashes and two years of serious incidents to create the rankings.

In addition to government audits, audits from industry governing bodies and major associations, the age of the aircraft, and crew training also influence decisions.

He acknowledged that all airlines experience incidents on a daily basis, and that many are not related to the airline’s operations, but are caused by manufacturing issues with the aircraft or engines.

However, how flight attendants handle these serious incidents is what separates the good airlines from the unsafe ones.

“The Top 25 Safest Airlines in 2024 are consistently at the forefront of safety innovation, operational excellence, and the entry into service of new, more advanced aircraft such as the Airbus A350 and the Boeing 787 and 777-9. ” he said.
