Belgian Hindu Forum granted first step towards official recognition of Hinduism by Belgian parliament

Mahaprabhu Dasa speaks with representatives of the Hindu Belgian Forum.
The Belgian Hindu Forum (HFB) has issued a press release announcing that the Belgian parliament has voted to award the subsidy to HFB on January 11, 2024. This is the first step towards officially recognizing Hinduism as a religion in a European state. This was the result of HFB’s long-standing engagement with the Belgian government.
According to a press release, HFB was “founded in 2007 to represent the Belgian Hindu community and organizations and work towards the recognition of Hinduism by the Belgian government.” HFB organizations include Shiva Temple, Brussels Temple, Brahma Kumaris, ISKCON Radhadesh, ISKCON Brussels, ISKCON Antwerp, Bhaktivedanta University, and Nepali Community.
The press release further states, “HFB is grateful that Belgium has taken such a positive step towards Hindu recognition, and this reflects the positive efforts that the diverse Hindu community is making towards Belgium.” It means that their contribution has been recognized.”
Located in historic Antwerp, Belgium, ISKCON’s Ratha Yatra is highly appreciated by the country’s Hindu population every year.
Martin Gurvich (Mahaprabhu Dasa), Secretary General of the Belgian Hindu Forum, spoke specifically about the importance of this recognition: Achieving this important first step in the recognition process is crucial for all Hindus in Belgium to feel accepted as full-fledged citizens and residents who fully contribute to the country . ISKCON has been an important contributor to this process and we are confident that they will work even harder to take the next steps to receive a full evaluation. ” Mahaprabhu He Dasa is also Director of ISKCON Communications Europe and Director of the Museum of Sacred Art (MOSA).
