SINGAPORE — There is nothing unusual about seeing a mother-child pair crossing the road. However, as shared in the Facebook group Singapore Wildlife Sightings, Francis Poe was traveling on a road in Singapore when he spotted a baby pangolin clinging to the tail of an adult pangolin.
Poe was driving home at 1am on Tuesday, January 9, when he spotted two pangolins in the middle of the road.

In Singapore, removing wild animals, including pangolins, from the wild is illegal under the Wildlife Act. Pangolins are found in nature reserves and other areas managed by the National Parks Board (NParks). Pangolins are a protected species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), to which Singapore is a signatory.
Under the Endangered Species (Export and Import) Act, all trade in wild pangolins is also prohibited, and pangolin scales and meat contained in cargo entering Singapore will also be confiscated.
Pangolin meat is considered a luxury item in consumer markets in Asia, particularly China and Vietnam, and pangolin scales are commonly used in traditional Asian medicine, despite the lack of evidence of their medical benefits. used as an ingredient.
On Wednesday (January 10), a regular member of the Singapore Air Force (RSAF) admitted picking up a pregnant pangolin from a park junction along Yeo Chu Kang and selling it for $1,400. CNA reported that 21-year-old Damian Tan kept the pangolin at his girlfriend’s home for several days before putting it up for sale on Telegram.
NParks advises the public to leave pangolins alone if they spot a wild pangolin in a public place. According to NParks, this animal is shy and won’t attack, so don’t touch, chase or corner it.
