Sambamania will continue until 2024, which may seem like madness to many.
Adidas has released a version of the trendy sneaker that is made in Italy and costs a whopping $350. Typically, Samba sells for $100 and is manufactured in Southeast Asia. Adidas says this version of the Samba is the most luxurious it’s ever made and is inspired by Italian dress shoes.
Presented with an all-black upper, the Samba is crafted from premium Italian leather that pairs well with soft suede. The white tongue branding keeps things understated, while the ‘Samba’ mark appears in the usual gold embossment. Leather is also used on the tongue sockliner, while the outsole is made of rubber.
In 2017, adidas released another version of the German-made Samba. Retailing for just $100, it might have been considered a steal, even though the country doesn’t have the same shoe-making pedigree as Italy. And of course, the recent samba trend hadn’t really taken off yet.
New Balance famously has a tradition of releasing special edition sneakers made in the US, UK, and Japan, each with their own additional costs.
The Adidas Samba OG “Made in Italy” is available now for $350 through retailers like Sneakernsnstuff and Concepts. Adidas has yet to announce its own drop in the US, but some international sites are already carrying it.
