Italian airline Neos will expand its flights to Amritsar to capture travel demand between Punjab and Canada/Europe. This is in the backdrop of the recent India-Italy migration agreement, which facilitates the movement of students and workers to European countries.
The airline began operating flights between Milan and Amritsar in December 2022 and currently operates three weekly flights between Milan, Rome, Verona and Amritsar.
Air India and ITA Airlines also operate flights between India and Italy. However, Neos also carries traffic to Canada. A new route was introduced between Milan and Toronto by Neos in April last year. Almost 90% of passengers from Amritsar go to Canada via Milan, with Rome and Verona flights serving point-to-point traffic between India and Italy.
“As part of this strategy, we will be increasing our flights to Amritsar from April, demonstrating our dedication to meeting the growing demand in this important market,” he added. The company plans to induct his four Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, and he is expected to receive one within the next few days.
Canada is home to a large Punjabi diaspora, and there are frequent requests for direct flights from Amritsar. Before the pandemic, Air India was operating flights between Amritsar and Toronto via Delhi. In the absence of direct flights, passengers from Punjab travel to Canada via Delhi, Doha or Milan.
In addition to accommodating Canada-bound traffic, Neos hopes the recently signed India-Italy mobility agreement will lead to increased traffic. Last November, the two countries signed an agreement to facilitate the movement of Indian students and workers to Italy.
“This agreement allows us to further increase traffic flows between our countries and fits perfectly into our development plans,” said Stradiotti.
He added that Neos is always open to the possibility of cooperation with airlines from other countries, as it can benefit everyone.
