Travelers planning flights through Italy next week should prepare for disruption.

Baggage handlers and security guards at the country’s airports have announced they will begin a 24-hour strike action starting January 8, Business Travel News (BTN) Europe reports.

The national strike was called by trade union leaders representing baggage handlers in Milan. It begins at midnight on January 8th and continues until midnight on January 9th.

Employees from Ags Handling, Mle-Bcube, Airport Handling, Aviapartner Handling and Swissport Italy will all take part in the strike. According to a report by BTN, employees of these groups staff both Milan Malpensa and Linate airports.

However, the strike is not limited to Milan. Delays are also expected across Italy’s popular tourist regions, including Rome’s Fiumicino, Venice’s Marco Polo and Treviso airports. Security staff from ADR Assistance, Adr Security and Triveneto Sicrezza are also planning a 24-hour strike at these locations.

Florence’s airport is also expected to be affected, with airport ground staff also taking part in the strike.

However, airports participating in the labor movement are not expected to be completely shut down. Italian law requires the continuation of minimum essential services in the event of a strike.
