TEHRAN – “Snow Society”, Spain’s masterpiece in the international feature film category at the 96th Academy Awards, will be screened at the Arasbaran Cultural Center in Tehran on Sunday.
Produced in Spain, Chile, Uruguay and the United States in 2023, the film was directed by JA Bayona and is based on the book of the same name by Pablo Vielsi, which recorded the testimonies of 16 survivors of the 1972 Uruguayan Death flight. . It was a disaster many of Wielsi had known since childhood. The cast is made up of Uruguayan and Argentine actors, most of whom are newcomers.
According to Irnar news agency, after the film screening at 6pm, a review session will be held at the Center Amphitheater in the presence of film critic Kourosh Jahed.
This survival thriller film revolves around the flight of a rugby team that crashes into a glacier in the Andes. The few passengers who survive the crash find themselves in one of the harshest environments in the world.
In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, chartered to transport a rugby team to Chile, suffered an unexpected accident and crashed into a glacier in the heart of the Andes. Of the 45 passengers, only 16 survived. Trapped in one of the most inaccessible and harsh environments on Earth, they are forced to rely on any means necessary to survive. Their survival depends on the decisions they make in this desperate situation.
The film received positive reviews from critics and was nominated for Best Makeup and Best Hairstyling at this year’s Oscars.
This is the 605th film to be screened at the film club of Arasbaran Cultural Center, located on Jolfa Street, northwest of Seyed Khandan Bridge.
