2024 World Championship
Open Water 4x1500m Open Water Relay represented Australia in the homestretch. Kyle Lee and italian Domenico Acerenza Charge to the end. Lee completed the finishing touches with a time of 1:03:28.00, just 0.20 seconds behind the Italian.
The Australian relays were: Moesha Johnson, Chelsea Gubeka, Nicholas Sloman, and Lee. At the 2023 World Championships in July 2023, these four combined to win a bronze medal in the open water relay. The contents of the Italian relay are as follows: Julia Gabrieleschi, ariana bridi, Gregorio PaltrinieriAcerenza.
Neither Australia nor Italy were able to take the lead until the second half of the race, and it was a battle between the two from there. Australia’s Sloman gave Australia the lead midway through the third leg of the race. Italy’s Paltolinieri gave Italy the lead at the end of the third leg. Australia’s Lee was 2.5 seconds ahead of Italy’s Acerenza midway through the final leg, and both suffered strokes on the homestretch stroke.
Notably, this was Paltrinieri’s first swim in Doha after withdrawing from the 10km marathon late last week. Italy still holds two spots for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Dario Verani They finished in 8th place behind Acerenza.
