B Lab, the organization behind the B Corp Business Sustainability Certification Scheme, has reorganized its management structure in Singapore following the resignation of its chief executive.
Amelie Lemond, who joined B Lab Singapore as CEO in May 2023 and teamed up with founding director Caroline Theo, resigned in December of the same year. The former asset management and insurance executive has relocated to New Zealand.
Remond joined the organization to help accelerate the B Corp movement in Southeast Asia, which is still a relatively new concept. To qualify as a B Corp, or “charitable corporation,” a company must complete a rigorous assessment of its social and environmental credentials. To maintain certification, B Corp must demonstrate continuous improvement. He has over 8,000 of his B Corps around the world, 40 of which are in Singapore and 52 in other Southeast Asian countries. B Lab aims to certify his 100 companies in Singapore by 2025.
Although B Lab Singapore does not hold the CEO position, it has appointed two functional heads since Mr Remond’s departure. Cecilia Hough has joined as Head of Impact Management and Keith Tan has joined as Head of Business Development and Operations.
Mr Huff was previously an assistant manager at MINDS Bakers, a social enterprise providing sheltered employment to adults with intellectual disabilities in Singapore. Tan has a background as a marketer and founded Axpara.com, a human resources and technology services company, and Start Now, a marketing and technology solutions company.
Eco-Business understands that Chief Operating Officer Prisca Lim, who joined B Lab in 2022, has been placed on leave.
B Lab has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks over its climate change-related corporate certifications. B Lab is currently investigating the status of B Corporation, a media agency owned by French telecoms giant Havas, which recently began partnering with oil giant Shell, following complaints from other B Corporation-certified agencies.
