Belgium calls for significant reduction in bureaucracy in the EU
Belgium will assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 1, 2024, and has voiced support for a significant reduction in bureaucracy within the European Union. Recently, Belgian Finance Minister Vincent van Peteghem said that the development of an EU industrial agreement is a key priority for the Belgian president, and that achieving this requires eliminating red tape and improving the general investment climate in the EU. He reiterated that there is an urgent need to improve the
A request that we can only affirm and support!
Reduce bureaucracy immediately – stop CBAM
The rampant bureaucracy within the European Union can be seen in the example of the carbon border tax CBAM, which started on October 1, 2023. The Directorate-General for Taxation and the Customs Union is responsible, even if the European Commission seems unable to admit its mistakes. Because CBAM should have realized by now what a bureaucratic monster they have unleashed on the EU.
Total economic damages from CBAM are already in the billions of dollars.
The overall economic damage the EC has already caused with the CBAM farce is likely to reach billions of euros in the EU alone. Small and medium-sized enterprises in particular have been hit the hardest, while EU steelmakers in particular continue to receive billions of dollars in hidden subsidies in the form of free emissions allowances.
Importers intentionally disadvantaged by the EC
The EC and Responsible DG-TAXUD have repeatedly shown no willingness or interest to cooperate with CBAM-affected companies in Europe. Importing companies are deliberately excluded from the CBAM design by the EC under false pretenses.
Stop excessive subsidy policies
Billions of dollars in subsidies to outdated multinational companies that have been operating uneconomically for decades and are only artificially kept alive by European Commission favoritism must be stopped immediately. First, this freed up capital must be invested in European small and medium-sized enterprises. Furthermore, those responsible would have to be held personally responsible for such subsidy deviations, in which case we would probably no longer have an EC.
European Commission out of control – more influence from EU member states needed
The European Commission is completely out of control. An immediate reduction in bureaucracy and a sustained improvement in the investment climate will only succeed if the EU executive authorities are brought back under the supervision and control of her EU Member States. The European Commission urgently needs to return to its democratic values and become a servant of the people once again.
Brussels: Bureaucratic proliferation and favoritism
Brussels bureaucrats should have fully demonstrated what can happen with a free hand. We must replace the bloated bureaucracy, the refusal to admit mistakes, and the systemic favoritism that disadvantages Europeans and small and medium-sized businesses with more democracy and freedom. The Brussels decision is no longer understandable to the people and entrepreneurs that the European Commission is supposed to serve.
EU industrial agreements that can only be achieved by small and medium-sized enterprises
Improving the investment climate in the European Union and the EU Industrial Agreement can only be achieved through the cooperation of small and medium-sized enterprises. We therefore call on the Belgian EU Council Presidency to start here, end red tape and follow through on the many good words about improving Europe’s business environment with immediate action.
