Belgian police have concluded there was “no real threat” about a bus that was stopped because passengers thought other passengers were discussing a possible terrorist attack, authorities said Friday.
A FlixBus bus heading from the northern French city of Lille to Brussels was stopped by police on Thursday after passengers raised the alarm after hearing what appeared to be conversations about a planned attack.
A spokesperson for the West Flanders District Public Prosecutor’s Office told AFP that three male passengers were briefly detained and questioned, but police determined there was “no real threat to safety”.
“So maybe the witness heard something that he misunderstood… His intentions were obviously good, but there is no evidence that there was any threat at any point,” she said.
Other passengers were tested and allowed to continue on the bus to Brussels after an hour delay.

Officials praised the police’s quick response to the alert and did not raise the national terror alert status from its current “severe” level.
