Belgium: Wallonia government launches innovation partnership dedicated to ATMP

The Wallonia Government has approved funding for the Innovation Partnership for Advanced Therapeutic Medicines (ATMP) proposal.

ATMP is the next generation of biomedicine designed to address unmet medical needs.

Willy Borsus, Minister of Economy and Vice-President of Wallonia, promoted this initiative based on the Wallonia Recovery Plan. This is a co-construction process involving all stakeholders in the field, led by his BioWin, the Wallonia Health Cluster, and the Research and Technology Development Department of the Wallonia Public Service for Economy, Employment and Research. The project involves 26 partners and has a budget of €81 million (US$88 million), with approximately 60% public funding and 40% private funding.

Approximately 23 million euros have already been allocated for 2023.

ATMP PIT aims to give a major boost to Wallonia’s advanced therapeutics sector by establishing new partnerships between academia (including teaching hospitals), research centers and companies.
