Chef Hector Santiago plans to open a Spanish tapas bar called La Metro in Ponce City Market this summer.
Le Metro is Santiago’s second restaurant in Ponce City Market, joining El Super Pan. Santiago also owns El Bullo Pollo in Tech Square and El Super Pan in another location on the Battery. El Super Pan was originally a pop-up out of Santiago’s Poncey Highland restaurant Pura Vida, which had been open for 12 years. He opened his El Super Pan in Ponce City Market in 2015 and in 2020 he opened El Burro Pollo.
“I fell in love with Spain and its vibrant food, wine and culture many years ago,” Santiago said of the opening in a press release. “Ponce City’s Market is located in the middle of the always bustling city, and you can feel the energy within the building. When we came up with the idea for this restaurant, we felt a fun tapas bar would be the perfect fit.”
The menu will include fresh, cured and canned seafood, charcuterie and cheese, according to a press release. The menu usually (but not always) includes “pintxos” (“pintxos” means spiked in Basque), small bite-sized snacks made of various ingredients held together on toothpicks, as well as patatas bravas and patatas. This includes classic tapas such as Bravas. We also have croquettes and larger dishes.
The drinks menu includes Spanish cavas, wines and ciders, as well as selections from the United States and Portugal. A cocktail made with spirits loved by Spaniards and a Spanish twist. Beer is sourced from breweries in Atlanta and Spain.
