NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said Sunday at the beginning of a trip to Washington aimed at lobbying Congress to continue funding the war against Russia that U.S. military funding for Ukraine is an important deterrent to China. He claimed to bring a message of power.

He said the deal being negotiated in the U.S. Congress is a “good deal.” Stoltenberg said that although U.S. aid to Ukraine is only a small portion of the Pentagon’s budget, “we were able to significantly destroy and degrade the Russian military.”
“So we should continue with it,” he said.
Stoltenberg is scheduled to meet with Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Monday.
He is scheduled to meet on Tuesday with Republican and Democratic lawmakers involved in the Ukraine aid discussion.
