China’s top diplomat Wang Yi will visit Germany for the Munich Security Conference, followed by visits to Spain and France in the coming days, Beijing’s Foreign Ministry announced Thursday.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend and give a speech at the 60th Munich Security Conference, which will be held from February 16 to 21, the spokesperson said in a statement.

He will then visit Spain and France, where he plans to “hold a Sino-French strategic dialogue.”

The conference brings together military elites from around the world and is considered a barometer of transatlantic relations. It starts on Friday.

In his speech there, Wang will “explain in detail China’s proposals for building a community with a shared future for mankind and advocating for an equal and orderly multipolar world,” the Foreign Ministry said.

According to the Chinese government, this will be the first visit by a Chinese foreign minister to Spain in six years.

China said the visit would “strengthen mutual trust, strengthen friendly relations, promote cooperation and strengthen the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership.”

The Chinese government also hopes to “deepen strategic communication, strengthen political mutual trust, and promote practical cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges” with France, it added.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry website, Wang Yi’s visit to France is “the first important visit between the two countries this year.” Mr. Wang will also meet with Mr. Macron’s foreign affairs adviser Emmanuel Bonn.
