BEIJING: China’s top diplomat Wang Yi will visit Germany for the Munich Security Conference and then visit Spain and France in the coming days, Beijing’s Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday (February 15).
“From February 16th to 21st… Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend and deliver a speech at the 60th Munich Security Conference,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
He will then visit Spain and France, where he plans to “hold a Sino-French strategic dialogue.”
The annual security gathering in Munich brings together military elites from around the world and is considered a barometer of transatlantic relations. It starts on Friday.
In his speech there, Wang will “explain in detail China’s proposals for building a community with a shared future for mankind and advocating an equal and orderly multipolar world,” the Foreign Ministry said.
According to the Chinese government, this will be the first visit by a Chinese foreign minister to Spain in six years.
China said the visit would “strengthen mutual trust, strengthen friendly relations, promote cooperation and strengthen the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership.”
Beijing also said it hoped to “deepen strategic communication, strengthen political mutual trust, and promote practical cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges” with France.
