Citadel Securities quant re-emerges after 21 months from retirement at Singaporean HFT firm

Must read

Quants at hedge funds and trading firms typically don’t compete for long, but Citadel and Citadel Securities have a reputation for locking people out of the market at the longer end of the range. So, almost two years later, quantitative researchers from Citadel Securities have re-emerged into high-frequency trading in Singapore.

Zhenkai Lu joined Tower Research Capital as an on-site quantitative researcher. Mr. Lu joined Citadel Securities in 2017 as a researcher and retired again in May 2022. He says he has been on gardening leave since May 2022.

Mr Lu spent the majority of his tenure in Dublin, working in markets in Europe and the US, before moving to Australia for the final year of his tenure, working in the single stock option market in Hong Kong.

It’s not clear what Mr. Lu has been doing during his time off the market. Eisler Capital’s former prime minister Pierre Bost resigned in July and spent six months as a “kitesurfing apprentice”, which was clearly his “penance”. He also recently resurfaced at London hedge fund Baryasni.

Citadel Securities declined to comment.
