JOHOR BARU: Malaysians working in Singapore are taking steps to protect themselves from the coronavirus while traveling between the two countries as cases rise.
For now, they are following the basic steps of wearing masks, maintaining good hygiene and avoiding crowded places.
Mohammad Arifin Mohd Lowi, 31, an environmental services officer, said there were concerns about a resurgence of the disease, but it was not as intense as at the beginning of the pandemic.
“When we saw an increase in cases in the past, there was a sense of panic as most countries were still in the process of vaccinating their populations.
“However, the situation is very different today as most of us are fully vaccinated and it is very unlikely that the government will tighten restrictions.
“For now, I insist on wearing a mask, especially at work and in crowded places,” said Mohd Arifin, who has been working in Singapore since 2019.
He added that his company is taking proactive steps to protect its employees by monitoring their body temperature.
R. Paveethra, 28, an accountant development assistant also working in Singapore, echoed similar sentiments.
“Several people around me have recently tested positive for COVID-19, and we are all taking isolation seriously.
“I think that’s all we can do for now,” she said.
