It’s hard to imagine one concert tour lasting more than 12 years. But Mayday’s Nowhere World Tour accomplished this feat.

After kicking off at Taipei Arena on December 23, 2011 and playing more than 100 concerts, the world tour will finally conclude at Singapore’s National Stadium on January 14, 2024.

The tour stopped in Singapore a total of three times, with one show in 2012 and two shows in 2013, all at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The current two performances are being performed at the National Stadium.

The tour’s popularity stems from its introduction to Taiwanese rock bands reaching the pinnacle of critical and commercial acclaim.

This is in support of the album Second Round (2011), which won six group awards, including Best Band, Best Mandarin Album, and Song of the Year for the rock anthem “Noah’s Ark.” won the Golden Melody Award.

I was here as a 28-year-old rookie reporter to see their 2012 show, and at the time I was still using an iPhone 4 and didn’t have an Instagram account. Their encore performance was, for this reviewer, It brought back many memories of growing up and getting older. A five-piece band, all of whom were in their 30s at the time.

Over the course of 12 years, Mayday’s fans, especially the older fans, have likely experienced a lot of life experiences, from marriage to raising children to changing jobs. They would also have lost many friends and lost contact along the way.

So hearing old songs played in roughly the same style over the course of a decade was a bittersweet walk down memory lane, a reminder of the inexorable passage of time.

Here are three highlights from the January 13th show, which was attended by 40,000 people.

1. Everyone pitched in because Asin was suffering from voice problems.

Unfortunately, during the final performance of such a high-profile tour, the band’s lead vocalist Asin suffered from vocal problems in Singapore.

Of the 10 May Day concerts I’ve attended, this was the worst he sounded. I was trembling from beginning to end, and I couldn’t even hit the high notes like Kuratate (2011).

Unable to articulate the usual chorus of You Are Not Truly Happy (2008), he resorted to singing an octave lower. During the jokes, he sometimes struggled to speak, and the cries he tried to muster would sometimes turn into shrieks.

The 48-year-old confessed: I’m in a bind. Should I sing less and “torture” you less? Or should I sing more about what I really want to do? I just want to give you the best. ”

No one would blame him if the vocal night didn’t go well, and he certainly tried to. Disappointed fans are advised to attend other May Day shows after Asin recovers. Because he is a talented songwriter and his usually husky baritone is rather unique in the Mandopop world.

Due to the situation on January 13th, other band members had to intervene.

Bassist Masa was on the mic for “Contentment” (2005), and drummer Guan Yu was on the mic for most of “I Won’t Let You Be Lonely” (2011).
