A city council in southern Spain has launched a comprehensive municipal maternity and livelihood support program.
(evangelical focus) After a heated debate, the conservative People’s Party (PP) and Vox voted to pass a motion to make the Spanish city of Córdoba a “city open to life.”
City Councilwoman Eva Contador, a devout evangelical Christian, was key to this pro-life movement. She introduced a motion during the town council debate stating the negative effects of abortion. “In some countries, children are no longer being born with Down syndrome or other disabilities,” she says.
Speaking at City Hall, Contador emphasized that the first human right is the “right to life” and that “this is not about politics or religion.” Contador said there are more abortions in Spain than births because abortion has long been accepted as “a form of anti-pregnancy.”
She acknowledged that although Spain’s current law allows abortion, there is life in the first heartbeat of a fetus, just as life ends with the last heartbeat.
