https://www.ses.ie/DHL Express has put into service its last Boeing 777 freighter at its Singapore hub. With a payload capacity of 102 tonnes, the aircraft will join four other Boeing 777 freighters already deployed in Singapore, strengthening intercontinental connectivity between Asia-Pacific and the Americas. These five cargo ships will offer a total capacity of 1,224 tons and will meet the growing customer demand for international express delivery services.

Starting in December 2023, three of the five Boeing 777 freighters will fly seven times a week on Singapore-Bangkok/Taipei-Incheon/Nagoya-Cincinnati-Honolulu-Sydney-Singapore routes. The remaining two flights will operate five times a week between Singapore, Nagoya, Los Angeles, Honolulu, and Singapore. With these services, DHL Express leverages Singapore’s strategic location and position as a major hub for air cargo and logistics, significantly enhancing the capabilities of its international air network. Customers looking to ship between the Asia Pacific region and the US West Coast can expect delivery times to be reduced to one day for time-sensitive cross-border shipments.

“Both Asia and the United States are large economies and have significant trade flows. With the vast amount of cross-border e-commerce and trade activity, we continue to see strong demand for deliveries between the two regions. Over the past four years, shipment volumes between Asia Pacific (excluding China) and the United States have increased by more than 20%,” said Ken Lee, CEO, DHL Express Asia Pacific. “We aim to improve trade connectivity between Asia and the United States, and the introduction of these five cargo ships will enable us to provide shippers in the Asia-Pacific region with efficient and fast logistics solutions. Having Singapore Airlines as our partner to operate and maintain these aircraft has also improved the quality of our customer service.”

In March 2022, DHL Express and SIA entered into a crew and maintenance agreement, under which SIA will oversee the operation and maintenance of five Boeing 777 freighters deployed at the South Asia hub. DHL Express welcomed its first freighter in August 2022. These five Boeing 777 freighters are part of DHL Express’ order book of 28 Boeing 777 freighters since they were first purchased in 2018. Like engine freighters, Boeing 777 freighters are also becoming more fuel efficient. With 18% lower CO2 emissions compared to his conventional B747-400, this freighter will strengthen his DHL Express operations and contribute to the company’s sustainability goals.

With a presence in more than 220 countries and territories, DHL Express’ global network consists of 18 own and partner airlines and more than 300 dedicated aircraft, operating more than 2,400 flights every day. The company is committed to continuous improvement and innovation in its services and network by continually investing in its aircraft, network operations, and ground infrastructure to meet the growth in time-sensitive cross-border transportation.
