Evonik’s MetAMINO facility in Singapore achieves first milestone

Must read

Evonik announced this week that upgrades to its Singapore-based MetAMINO (DL-methionine) production facility are progressing as planned. After being shut down for three months in the fourth quarter of 2023, his MetAMINO production on Jurong Island is once again operating at full capacity. The company said it will be required to close the second MetAMINO production plant in the second quarter of 2024.

The changes align with Evonik’s methionine asset strategy to safeguard long-term sustainable global supply security, based on best-in-class production sites in three global regions: Singapore, Mobile (Alabama, USA) and Antwerp. (Belgium).

“As the only global methionine provider, we are able to provide a secure supply to customers around the world. Beyond that, we always strive to increase the sustainability of our production plants.” says Dr. Dirk Holler, head of the essential nutrition business in Evonik’s animal nutrition business line. The ongoing upgrade in Singapore will require him to shut down one factory again in the second quarter, as the necessary measures cannot be carried out during day-to-day operations.

This upgrade will improve the efficiency of the facility’s processes and reduce the carbon footprint of MetAMINO products from the Singapore factory by 6% (Scope 1+2+3).

The reduction in carbon emissions was achieved through several modifications, including the use of green hydrogen, intensive energy integration, and innovative solutions for increased circularity to recover MetAMINO and raw materials. Further reducing carbon emissions with MetAMINO in Singapore will also help Evonik customers and partners along the food value chain achieve their sustainability goals. Evonik validates science-based targets to reduce emissions along a warming pathway well below 2°C and long-term intentions to increase ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 Did.

MetAMINO is used in livestock production to feed animals in a healthy, efficient and sustainable way. Evonik’s Animal Nutrition business unit uses a science-based approach to develop products, services and system solutions that help provide healthy, high-quality and affordable animal protein to the growing world population. . Animal Nutrition is part of Evonik’s Nutrition & Care division and contributes significantly to Nutrition & Care’s profitable growth through self-funding.
