The company reports that the expansion of its DL-methionine production facility on Jurong Island is progressing as planned.
After a brief three-month shutdown in the fourth quarter of 2023, Singapore-based MetAMINO production resumed operations at full capacity. However, Evonik expects that it will be necessary to shut down the complex’s second MetAMINO production plant in the second quarter of 2024. This precaution is considered necessary because certain changes cannot be carried out efficiently during normal day-to-day operations.
This upgrade is a vital element of Evonik’s methionine asset strategy, which outlines how the company is focused on ensuring a long-term sustainable and secure global supply chain. This change will improve the efficiency of the facility’s processes while Reducing carbon emissions6% increase in MetAMINO. A variety of initiatives, including the use of green hydrogen, energy integration and circularity initiatives, contribute to this sustainability goal.
Dr. Dirk Holler, Head of the Essential Nutrition Business at Evonik’s Animal Nutrition Division, highlighted the company’s commitment to continuously improve the sustainability of its production plants. He continued that this upgrade is in line with Evonik’s science-based emissions reduction targets and aims for a path consistent with keeping global warming below 2°C. He also aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Evonik highlighted how its customers and partners across the food value chain will benefit from the upgrade in line with sustainability goals.
Production bases in the United States, Europe, and Asia
The company’s two methionine plants in Singapore have been in operation since 2014 and 2019, respectively, and play a key role in the company’s global production network. Evonik manages two additional methionine production sites in Mobile, Alabama, USA, and Antwerp, Belgium.
In parallel industry news, Adisseo, a major methionine producer, recently announced that announcedStrategic integration of French DL-methionine production in the Roche-Roussillon industrial platform in the Isère region. This move was made in response to difficult economic conditions and led to the discontinuation of methionine production on the comment site from October 2022 onwards.
