Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has refuted recent speculation linking Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey with La Liga clubs Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad. Despite Partey being an important player for the Gunners in recent years, he has been plagued by injuries and has only appeared in five games this season.

Arsenal announced on their official website that Partey has returned to first-team training ahead of Tuesday’s game against Nottingham Forest. The Ghanaian international is recovering from a lingering muscle problem that has kept him sidelined since early October. His return is expected to give manager Mikel Arteta a big boost and give his team tactical flexibility.

Arsenal are unlikely to actively part ways with Partey, but realistically they may need to consider a lucrative offer, especially if he maintains his fitness. However, Romano downplayed his current links with a return to Spain, saying there is currently no interest from Partei’s former clubs Atletico Madrid or Real Sociedad.

talk to Caught offside in Daily Briefing columnRomano made it clear that during the summer, the main interest in Partey came from Saudi clubs, but no major developments are expected in January.

“Despite what some Spanish sources have reported, I do not know what is currently happening with Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey,” Romano said.

“Atletico Madrid are not interested and Real Sociedad are not considering it at the moment. There is nothing at the moment. A club from Saudi Arabia wanted him in June last year but Arsenal decided to keep him. So we’ll see what the strategy is over the next few months, but it looks like it’s going to be very quiet for January.”

Arsenal will play Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in the Premier League on Tuesday, but they will have Thomas Partey in their squad for the first time since October.
