As highlighted in Mundo DeportivoFC Barcelona enters the new year leading Spain with an interesting statistic.
The Blaugrana won their first La Liga title in four years in the spring, but entered the Christmas and New Year holidays seven points behind leaders Real Madrid and Girona.
President Joan Laporta remains confident Barça can challenge for all four trophies, even as the season draws to a close.
“We live in every competition. We aim to win every competition we participate in,” Laporta said recently.
“We are in La Liga, we are a long way from the top, but we are third and what always matters is how it ends. At the moment we are in a slump and our rivals are trying to catch up. But I think, ‘They’re going to have a slump too, but we’re going to progress better. Because some of the injured players have already recovered and are the foundation of this team.
“The expectation remains that we will win every competition we take part in. I am still optimistic about the team,” Laporta concluded.
After a much-needed break, the Blaugrana will start 2024 on January 4 with an away trip to Pedri’s boyhood club Las Palmas.
And, as shown by, Mundo Deportivothe performances of Xavi’s side on the road over the past 12 months have been encouraging and show they are leading Spain in this area.
In 2023, Barça played all 20 La Liga matches. They won 10 of those games, drew 6 and lost only 4 for a total of 36 points.
Rivals Real Madrid had the same results, but played one more game and finished with 11 wins, three draws and seven losses.
The biggest difference to note here is that Barça have lost fewer games. Barça’s form away from the Montjuïc stadium bodes well for future trips to the Bernabéu and Montilivi against Madrid and Girona, which could determine where Spain’s top flight crown ends up. Could be helpful. May.
