TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Friends and family of a Florida woman who went missing in Spain earlier this month are desperate for answers.
Ana Knezevic, 40, had just moved to Fort Lauderdale for a fresh start because she was “going through a stressful time in her personal life,” her friend Sanna Rameau told NBC. He told affiliate station WTVJ.
Rameau, who described Knezevic as caring, kind, smart and adventurous, said Knezevic had been living in an apartment in Madrid, Spain since December, but disappeared on Friday, February 2, 2024. .
“Someone did something to her and we’re trying to figure out who it was and why it happened,” Rameau told WTVJ.
According to Rameau, she sent a text message to Knezevic on the day she disappeared, but did not receive a reply until the next day, when Knezevic told her he was “meeting with someone and going to his villa, which is two hours from Madrid and his cell phone.” It is said that there was not. The signal may become unstable. ”
Rameau told WTVJ that she found the email “weird” and thought someone might have sent it from her friend’s cell phone.
“I tried to say I was worried about her. I was like, ‘You don’t feel safe,'” Rameau said. “What is she talking about? This doesn’t make any sense and my message didn’t get through.”
After a day had passed and Ramo had not heard from Knezevic, he contacted police in Madrid.
Friends called the local fire department for a medical check on February 4, but Knezevic was nowhere to be found.
“They couldn’t find her,” Rameau told WTVJ. “It appears she locked the apartment from the outside and left. That’s the last we know.”
Knezevic was not seen, but Rameau said he was told by authorities in Madrid that something strange had been seen on surveillance video about 30 minutes before Knezevic disappeared.
“A man wearing a helmet sprayed a surveillance camera outside the apartment register, waited for two people to exit the building, then took the opportunity to enter by the elevator and spray the surveillance camera inside. ” Rameau said.
According to WTVJ, Madrid police are investigating Knezevic’s disappearance and the woman’s family is working with the FBI to track her down. But so far there are no clues.
“We miss her and we love her,” Rameau said. “We want her back safely.”
